Midweek betting: A clubber’s analogy…

James Capps

La Liga and the EFL Cup take centre stage this week, which is basically the betting equivalent of Jessica Alba and Susan Boyle locking eyes with you in a nightclub.

The more glamorous, sexy La Liga is a much more exciting option, but your lack of knowledge and experience of pulling out non-domestic winners will see you stick with what you know. Accrington Stanley beating West Ham at 9/1 to ruin your acca is SuBo slapping you in the face and heading home anyway.

But not to worry, your virtual wingman is here to help.

The game of the week in La Liga is Barcelona v Atletico Madrid at the Nou Camp on Wednesday. The sides sit three and four points behind Real Madrid respectively, so this game already has huge significance. Losing further ground on Real could put their title challenges in serious jeopardy – even at this early stage of the season.

Atleti’s seriously tight defence, coupled with the fact that this game will be pretty cagey anyway means that under 2.5 goals at even money with Boyle Sports is the value bet. If any team can shut out Barca then it’s Atletico, and a price of 9/2 for them to keep a clean sheet is huge. They kept 35 of them last season, which is some feat.

Will Barca find a way past Diego Godin and the rest of the Atletico defence?

Las Palmas looked good value in their home win against Malaga at the weekend, and they’re a curious 11/4 to win at the consistently inconsistent Real Sociedad. Another cheeky long shot single can be found at the Mestalla, where Valencia host Alaves. Valencia is a club in disarray, with problems on and off the pitch. Alaves meanwhile are mid-table following an unbeaten start (at the time of writing) to the season that features a coupon-busting 2-1 away win at Barcelona. Alaves to snatch another surprise win at 19/4 is well worth a tenner on Thursday.

Back in Blighty, three of the tournament favourites have trips to the glorious East Midlands on Tuesday (written by the Derby County fan from Nottingham), with Chelsea facing Leicester, Liverpool travelling to Derby, and Arsenal taking on Forest at the City Ground. Three away wins is just over 4/1, so why not be a romantic and go for three midlands sides in a treble at 154/1 with BoyleSports?

Any excuse to get a photo of Will Hughes (Derby County) into the blog…

Oh wait, I know – because it ain’t gunna happen. But I’m backing it anyway.

Leeds United beat Blackburn in the league a couple of weeks ago, and they’re a 21/20 shout to repeat the trick in the cup this week. Man City should carry on their blistering form with a win against Swansea, but at odds of 1/2, I’m forced to look elsewhere in that game for a bit of value.

Kelechi Iheanacho (I didn’t copy and paste that, I swear) to score anytime at 21/20 with Ladbrokes is a certainty if he starts. The Nigerian has scored ten goals in his short career so far from just 14 shots; lethal stuff. Back him to bag again on Wednesday night.

El Capitano’s Tip of the Day: Kelechi Iheanacho to score anytime for Man City against Swansea at 21/20

Cappa’s Acca: £10 on Chelsea, Man City, Malaga and Bilbao returns £107 with BoyleSports.
