Turkish Delight And Lyon To Fight

James Capps

We’re at the Billy Business end of the Champions League, which means that some great odds are available to those who do some studying to find the clubs who need/don’t need results in the final round of group games.

The good news is I’ve done the studying for you. The bad news is I studied at the University of Derby.

Anyway, the group with perhaps the greatest intrigue on Tuesday is Group B…

As you can see, things are looking pretty tight between the top three sides. Third-placed Besiktas travel to already-eliminated Dynamo Kiev, and are 13/10 to get three points which would take them through to the next round. That’s the biggest lump I’ve offered up since I last cooked mashed potato.

That leaves us with Benfica v Napoli. The Portuguese side need to chase a positive result if they’re to get through. They have home advantage, but Napoli are a side that are potent on the break. Both teams to score should be a safe bet in this one, at 8/11 with Ladbrokes. Couple that with the draw and you’ve got a rather nice 10/3.

There isn’t a huge deal else going on on Tuesday in terms of tussles for top spot, but PSV Eindhoven at 8/11 to dispose of FC Rostov at home should be a safe acca leg. They managed a draw in Russia, and boast a decent home record domestically.

Straight over to Wednesday now, and we start off in Group G…

Leicester have secured themselves top spot despite being absolute pish in the Premier League recently. Porto are in the driving seat for second, but need a win in their final game, at home to the Foxes, to secure their safe passage through. 1/3 for that to come in is shorter than it should be, so back a Jesús Corona wincast at 23/10. Copenhagen are 11/10 to apply some pressure with a win at Club Brugge in their final game. Only a win will do for the Danes.

Lyon host Sevilla in a fight for the pleasure of accompanying Juventus into the second round from Group H. Sevilla won the reverse tie 1-0, so the French side need to better that if they’re to get through. Sevilla’s away form is patchy, and they haven’t kept a clean sheet on the road in five games, so Lyon to score first at 10/11 has a great chance, especially with them at home in a game they have to win. Lyon to be winning at half time with the final result being a draw is huge at 12/1. Well worth considering.

Last up is a trip to Group F…

Borussia Dortmund need to avoid defeat in their trip to Real Madrid if they’re going to finish as group winners. You can’t really see past a Madrid win at the Bernabeu, especially in this scenario, and 20/23 is more than generous. Sporting Lisbon travel poorly in Europe, and Legia Warsaw can pounce on that by knicking third-place with a win in Poland. Take a chance on them at 7/2 with Ladbrokes.

El Capitano’s Tip of the Day: A score draw between Besiktas and Napoli at 10/3.
