Brighton have the chance to return to the top of the Championship while putting a 12-point gap between themselves and third place on Friday night. They travel to mid-table QPR, who are staggering towards the end-of-season finishing line. The Seagulls have won four of their last five, while Rangers have looked pretty lifeless in consecutive 1-0 defeats to Derby and Aston Villa. There’s only one side fighting for something in this one, so back a regulation away win at a decent 21/20.
David Nugent has hit some great goalscoring form in recent weeks at Derby County. Nuge’ bagged a superb hat-trick in the Rams’ 4-2 victory over Fulham on Tuesday, and looks a cracking bet at 21/10 to bag just one at Birmingham, who are dropping quicker than your dad if he was in the ring with Anthony Joshua.
The three sides scrapping to avoid the final two relegation spots all have winnable games on Saturday. Wigan should beat Rotherham at home, but 1/2 is nowhere near good enough to separate me and my tenner, but under 2.5 goals at 3/4 certainly is. Blackburn at even money to beat Barnsley also looks appealing. The Tykes have only won one of their last dozen games, and have taken their foot off the accelerator now that their play-off ambitions have ended. Bristol City, meanwhile, entertain mid-table (and in-form) Wolves. The Robins need a result, but I don’t think they have enough to prevent the away side from bagging their sixth straight win at 9/5 with Ladbrokes.
Sheffield United can secure promotion from League One this weekend with a win at Northampton. The Cobblers sit in 13th, and with no real relegation worries you should expect these to lay down the red carpet for the Blades at 8/13.
Down at the other end of the table, Swindon have hit form at just the right time, thanks to brilliant 1-0 wins over Millwall and Fleetwood. Those results have put them just a point adrift of safety, and next up is a home game against MK Dons, who probably can’t wait for their underwhelming season to end. Get on the home win at 21/10 with BoyleSports.
Coventry City face relegation if they lose to Peterborough and other results go against them on Saturday. A game of that magnitude which features Peterborough, who have scored in five straight games, usually results in a goal or two. Coventry will come out fighting, so back them to win with both teams to score at a HUUUUGE 4/1.
Plymouth look well on course for promotion from League Two, and will be all but up if they secure three points against a Crawley side with just one win in their last seven. And at odds of 11/10, the Pilgrims are in Tip of the Day territory.
Elsewhere in the fourth tier, expect a home win for Wycombe as they continue their play-off chase with a game against Cheltenham. The Chairboys are 11/10 to beat a side with the second-worst away record in the division. Another side that are well in the play-off hunt are Blackpool, and I fancy them to shake off their unfortunate defeat to Luton last time out with a win over mid-table Grimsby this weekend. Back the Tangerines at a solid 3/4 here.
Last up is a trip to good old Exeter, as the Grecians host Newport, who are in last chance saloon at the bottom of the table. Exeter need the points for a top-seven finish, while Newport are showing plenty of pluckiness in their fight to stay up, with just two defeats in their last six. Both teams to score has gotta be a cert here, which you can get at 5/6 with the chaps at Ladbrokes.
El Capitano’s Tip of the Day: Plymouth Argyle at 11/10 to win at Crawley in League Two.
Cappa’s Acca: £10 on Derby, Blackburn, Sheffield United and Accrington returns £145 with BoyleSports. Back it here!
