No games in the Championship for this week, so before I cry in a corner, let’s take a look at…
Price of the day has to be at Bloomfield Road on Saturday as the strong-at-home Blackpool host patchy Portsmouth. The Tangerines have enjoyed a solid return to the third tier following promotion from League Two, and have lost just once in their last seven games at home. Pompey, meanwhile, have lost three in a row, and four of their last five league games on the road. 2/1 for a Blackpool home win is surely a typo at the Ladbrokes head office, so take advantage and rinse the bookies here.
I’m expecting plenty of goals in the Yorkshire derby between Doncaster and Rotherham at the Keepmoat. Donny come into the game off the back of a 6-2 thrashing of Ebbsfleet in the FA Cup last week, while the last five Rotherham games have all seen over 2.5 goals. I fancy the Millers to go one further and make it an over 3.5 thriller, and you can bag better than 2/1 for them to make it happen this weekend.
You’ve got to fancy 5th-placed Scunthorpe to make it back-to-back home league wins when they welcome travel-sick Bristol Rovers to Glanford Park. Rovers were dumped out of the FA Cup by lower league opposition last week, and have lost eight of their last ten away games in League One. You can always count on Scunny to be a solid leg on your accas, so get on them here at a very generous 11/10 with BoyleSports.
There’s always a decent game to be had when Peterborough are in town, and next up for the Posh is a Sunday trip to AFC Wimbledon. The away side are a cracking 9/5 to extend their decent run to just one defeat in six in all competitions, against a side that have won just twice at home since March. Get on it if you’ve got some Saturday winnings burning a hole in your pocket…
We have some Friday festivities in south Wales as Newport face Port Vale in League Two. Newport’s bright start has started to fall away in the form of just one win in their last five games, while Port Vale have scrapped their way out of the bottom two thanks to five wins from their last half-dozen. If you like to follow form then you’ve got to back Vale at 5/2 for the away win, but if you don’t like to follow form, you need a kick up the arse… and then click here to back the away victory.
Exeter should feel confident about returning to form with three points against Grimsby on Saturday. The Mariners have scored just twice in a four-game winless spell, and couldn’t find a way past Exeter in both games last season. The home side have had a bit of a dip in recent weeks, but have enough quality to work their way through this one. Get on the Grecians at 5/6 with Ladbrokes.
Last up is a look at two sides that certainly know where the back of the net is. The last three Cheltenham games have yielded a healthy 15 goals, while Luton are the highest scorers in the division with 34 strikes in their opening 16 games this season. Both to score in this one looks a banker at 4/6 and is pretty short, so go ahead and stick out that lovely long neck of yours and back over 3.5 goals at 2/1.
El Capitano’s Tip of the Day: Blackpool at a lovely 2/1 to see of Portsmouth in League One on Saturday.
Cappa’s Acca: £10 on Scunthorpe, Oxford, Swindon and Exeter returns a tidy £132 with Ladbrokes. Back it here!
